What is Entertaiment?

Entertaiment is a broad concept that covers everything from the way children play to the way adults entertain themselves. It is sometimes abbreviated to entmt on a flier or in industry news publications when space is limited.

The term can be as small as a choice of private entertainment from an ever-growing selection of pre-recorded products; or as large as a performance intended for thousands. Entertainment also includes activities that have a serious purpose, such as a ceremony or a religious festival. It also includes stories that inspire a retelling in another medium, such as the story of Scheherazade and its multiple incarnations: it has inspired orchestral compositions by Rimsky-Korsakov, Ravel and Szymanowski; Pasolini made a film adaptation and there is an innovative video game version of it.
